BBC RADIO 1 vs. BACK TO TRENCHES - ???

Long time Nazareth fan here.

Have a question about these two CD releases in the subject thread.

The BBC Radio 1 Live In Concert CD on the Windsong label says it is from June 5, 1972 and May 17, 1973.

The first 10 tracks on the Back to the Trenches live 2 CD set are the EXACT same thing as the BBC Radio 1 CD but that says it is from "Canada 1972".

I'm betting the former is correct, and Trenches somehow has it wrong, but can anyone elaborate on what the story behind this is??

I've got "Nazareth fever" lately thanks to a Naz discussion on a music forum, just picked up all the SALVO remasters (am loving 'em) and have been O.D.ing listening to my Nazareth collection the past 2 weeks or so. Someone asked about these releases above and I just re-listened to 'em, they are positively the same show - but the liner notes do not agree....causing some head scratching...

I remember when the band were compiling this CD with the guy from Trojan records down at the old naz office . They had loads of live concerts and were going through them to make sure the sound quality was there and selecting the best ones they thought should be on the release. I actually got a call from Pete asking to borrow the Live at the Beeb CD which I think was on the snapper label because they didn't want to duplicate any stuff that was already out there but I guess along the way they didn't realize that this was already released under the Live in Concert CD you are talking about . I don't think the band were trying to con anybody its just they had that much stuff and weren't a 100% what was already released that the mix up happened . I think its a great package , the first time a proper biography of the band had been done and had a few gems on it that I hadn't heard live before . If you ever make it to Dunfermline look out for the local record store as he had a pile of the vinyl copies at one time

I think that this was covered on the old forum. The tracks on Back to the Trenches said to be recorded in Canada in 1972 were actually recorded at the Paris Theatre, London for the BBC in 1972 and 1973.

Thanks for the info folks. I love that Back to the Trenches package, cool design, great stuff on it, amazing booklet. I was surprised to discover that the BBC Radio 1 Live CD I had was the same thing as the 1st 10 tracks, never even noticed that before. The booklet/notes for Trenches is so well done I was kind of surprised it would miscredit those tracks, thanks for the clarification.

Another question - are any of you Naz experts familiar with the live "River Sessions" release on the "Reality" label - and if so do you know exactly what it is from?

I just got a copy of this from an Amazon reseller and although sound quality is pretty good, I think it must be a "bootleg", or at least a "grey area" release. Some tracks are cutoff, misspellings on the credits, confusion seems to exist in the notes itself if it is all from Glasgow or some from Houston, TX, but what really freaks is me out is that this uses a photo I took myself in the early 80's in the liner notes! No one ever asked me for the OK to use that (if I was asked I would have consented & been honored to have a photo I took included on an album)! Anyways, I am curious to know exactly what this release is from and if there is some kind of story behind this release.

Superbird - It's my favourite live album too, every track is great but the band's playing on 'Black Hearted Woman' is nothing short of superb. Many people talk about power trio's such as Cream, Led Zep, Hendrix as good as they were they just aren't as exciting as our boys. This is of course my opinion but for me the BBC 1972/3 recordings demonstrate just that.
