Dunfermline singer Stevie Agnew is heading south to play at the Country2Country festival this weekend.
DUNFERMLINE’S Stevie Agnew and his band are heading for the 02 Arena in London this weekend to play at Europe’s biggest country music festival.
Stevie had a tremendous response last year to his debut album ‘Wreckin’ Yard’, which reached number two in the European Americana chart, then delivered a brilliant sell-out concert at the Carnegie Hall.
The success led to an invitation to play at Country 2 Country, where they will play three slots over Saturday and Sunday in front of thousands of fans gathering from around the world.
Steve said, “The festival is a bit like T in the Park but for country music. There’s four stages and there’s people like the Dixie Chicks and Brad Paisley playing.
“It’s a big chance for us. You never know who could be there. Bob Harris is going from Radio Two so we’re going to try and have a word and see if he’ll play us on there.
“We’ve been rehearsing like mad for it and we’re ready to go. Beth Malcolm who sang on the album is coming down with us to do the duets.”
Stevie’s well advanced in recording the new album ‘Bad Blood and Whiskey’ and it could be released around June.
He is joined on one of the tracks by Dan McCafferty. “It’s a country song but it's in the Naz groove. Dan’s obviously retired now but he said he’d do it and it sounds great.”
Also coming up soon will be the release of the DVD of the Carnegie Hall concert. Stevie added, “It couldn’t believe it getting a full house and the night couldn’t have gone much better for us. We got the buzz for doing the big stage from there.
“With the ‘Wreckin’ Yard’ album, things started to snowballing over the year and because we’ve made all the contacts now we want to keep the momentum going.”
Once the album is released in the summer the band hope to line up tours in Europe and America.
“The best place for our downloads just now is Holland so we’d like to go over. We’ve had a lot of great reviews - once we’ve had them translated.”
