I am in two minds about it.
On one hand
Dan is my fave vocalist. His life's work is the Nazareth catalogue: his shoes are impossible to fill. Absolutely nobody can make Nazareth tunes sound like him... He definitively is one of a kind. It is a bit like the Nazareth-soul leaving when he now leaves... When Manny left as well, I felt it was 50% of the band went with him... and now without Dan?? well, the only way I can see it working now is bringing back Manny Charlton and/ or Billy Rankin, but even then you are struggling without Dan.
BUT On the other hand
Some bands have had success without their original vocalist. The most successful one I can think of is AC/DC which proved everybody wrong with Back in Black... But even with the success of Brian Johnson, nobody could really take Bon Scotts' place still to this day... even though they arguably had bigger success with Brian. Then Paul Rogers in Queen was less successful, simply because Paul Rogers is a different singer than Freddie Mercury / both ok in their own bands (Free + Bad Company vs. Queen)... and though Queen + Paul Rogers probably was worth the entry-ticket, it would not compare to seeing Queen with Freddie Mercury.
BUT, the most important thing is that Dan McCafferty has given his blessing for the band to carry on without him. He has stated that he want them to continue. And for that important reason + the fact that I think they would do a good job to represent the band and let us rock along to Naz sounds in the future, I will support Pete Agnew, Jimmy MUrrison and Lee Agnew in whatever they choose to do from here. In fact, I look on the tour dates, and Bergen-Norway may be their first gig with a new vocalist - AND I LIVE IN BERGEN....so I may be the first to see the "new Nazareth"... it will be with mixed feelings I attend that particular gig though. My heart will miss Dan for sure, but I am glad Pete & co still want to rock and I will cheer them on. Cause that is what I am: I am a Nazareth fan.
PS. one thing I would like to see is Dan McCafferty hooking up with Manny Charlton again. How great would it be if they did a Dan McCafferty album together? They will always be loved by Nazareth fanz worldwide, so why not "cash in" while they can and give us an album together again... It would be great to hear these two amazing music brothers playing together again. After all, as we know life can be a frail thing, and I think if there ever was a time to put a line in the sand and forgive each other, this would be it.
I wish everybody the best.. and again: thank you Dan for the memories.
