Post Voices - For Dan
on: May 10, 2014, 00:01

I do a bit of poetry writing when I'm not writing other things and finished this recently. Inspired by the sinking feeling that we all experienced hearing that
Dan's touring days had ended. We will never lose voices like his unless we
choose to forget.

Voices (for Dan)

There are voices that cannot die
and silence from them is a lie
heard when listening with your eye
instead of the ear.

We watch men clutch their heaving chests,
smoke silhouettes them like a vest
tightening to bleed out their breath
but we will always hear

those voices unloosed and soaring
far from any earthly mooring.
They are ageless and still roaring
above the crowd's din.

So close your eyes and raise your head,
they will still sing, they have not fled.
Their songs are strands in a thread
we will hear again.

Perhaps I should write a bunch of riffs for this song? :-)

Hi Guys. Excuse me, Nazfan_UA, but this morning during my breakfast i read this words and they hit me just into my heart, so the idea to write a melody came to me immediately.

So my variant is below this post. Would be glad to hear some reviews.

Excuse me for unclear pronunciation in some places, haven't "recorded" the words to my head yet, so it was a bit difficult to follow them from the screen.

Thanks.

Oh thanks, glad that you enjoyed it! And also thanks for such truthful words. I really dream of the day, when Dan sings those golden songs with the band together again.

It is only as I've gotten older that I fully realize how lucky I've been to grow up when I did. So many great musicians. Now, as some pass away and others are ailing, I realize more than ever how they have changed my life for the better.

Great job, Freewheeler!

I have an idea for a bunch of riffs... it must be a mix of Focus, Grand Funk and... something else, but pretty old ;-) But I need to get an electric guitar somewhere, as I like writing riffs :-)

just grabbed a guitar and wrote a short riff

Ab: V --- V ^ V V ---- V

G ......................................... C5
There are voices that cannot die

Ab
G............................................ D5 C5 B5 --------- Eb5 (vibrate)
and silence from them is a lie

a bit heavyblues :)
that's what came into my head. I just love creating such knife-curved stuff :)
I think it's not a very good riff after all... I mean it suits for a part of a song, an intro must be something less knife curved.

So flattering that anyone took the time to set it to music.
